PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and European Engineer (FEANI). An active entrepreneur committed to continuous learning, he has created and led several companies in Catalonia and across Spain, always specializing in the electronics and IT sectors, including Telesincro, SA, the first company in Spain to manufacture computers using its own technology in the 1960s.
He is currently president of the Fundació Ernest Lluch, president of the Cercle pel Coneixement, a member of CAREC, and treasurer of the Societat Barcelonesa d’Amics del País.
Regarding his political career, he was mayor of Mataró and Minister of Industry and Energy during Felipe González’s second government. In Brussels, he served as an advisor to the European Commission under the presidency of Jacques Delors; he was also president of the Information Society Forum and president of the European Institute for the Media (EIM) in Düsseldorf.
He was director of the Corporació Catalana de Ràdio i Televisió (CCRTV).
He is the author of several books on the evolution of contemporary society: Xips, cables i poder (1996), No m’ho crec! (2009), Després de tocar fons (2010), and El món que ve… ja el tenim aquí (2013).
