When school ends, educational inequalities widen even further. Lunchtime activities, after-school or summer extracurriculars, and the local library can shape personal trajectories and address serious inequalities.
But the reality is that in Catalonia, 40% of children and teenagers do not participate in any extracurricular activities during the school year, and one in four children finishes primary school without the expected reading level.
Equitat.org analyzes the challenges of what is known as 360-degree education. It promotes the Education 360 Alliance, with more than 400 organizations and institutions, to strengthen the country’s collective commitment to education beyond the school setting. It also works to improve children’s reading comprehension with the Lecxit program, which, thanks to more than 2,000 volunteers, reaches over 300 locations across the country.
