The lack of educational opportunities prevents the breaking of the inherited cycle of poverty, a precarious situation that condemns generation after generation to live in undignified conditions with no apparent end in sight. Spain once again has the dubious distinction of having the worst child poverty rate in the entire EU. This is according to the latest UNICEF report, which has just been published and states that 20 million children (one in four) are at risk of poverty or social exclusion in EU countries.<\/p>\n
Of these children and adolescents, more than 2 million live in Spain and more than 400,000 in Catalonia. In fact, the latest Living Conditions Survey shows a further increase in child poverty, affecting one in three Catalan children. The lack of basic necessities impacts every member of the vulnerable household, but it especially affects children and their ability to access quality education and, consequently, their prospects for a hopeful future.<\/p>\n
